Hurricane Relief Update
Hurricane Helene made landfall just east of the mouth of the Aucilla River in southwest Florida at about 11:10 pm on /Thursday, September 26, 2024 (East Coast time). Wind and water damage to homes, businesses, and communities from the Florida coast northward through Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina has been extensive. Many lives have been lost and property damage is in the billions of dollars. The AFA is on Stand-by to assist bird owners in the disaster area. Anyone needing assistance please send us an application by clicking the red button below. You can also email to: Disasterrelief@AFAbirds.org .
Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday night as a “dangerous Category 3” storm near Siesta Key, on Florida’s central west coast, the National Hurricane Center said. Siesta Key is a barrier island located just south of Sarasota. Milton had sustained winds of 120 mph at landfall, but its strength diminished to Category 1 as it moved inland across the state.
